Patricia Smith
Life may be hard, but not impossible. Mental and emotional obstacles can be used as steppingstones for good and productive lives. Tragedy can divide a life into 'before and after' yet that can become a platform from which healing and growth can occur. Identities formed and reinforced with lies can be realigned with truth.
One of my goals in the therapeutic alliance is to provide a safe place for people to learn how to begin to heal. A place where insight can be gained, lies replaced with truth and tools can be acquired to enable a new future despite what may be a painful past. I use a client centered approach to treatment, where you are a partner in the therapy process allowing people to discover what will work best for them.
I am a graduate of Liberty University and one of the highlights of my career is meeting with interns and new counselors providing an arena of support and encouragement as they develop their own skill set to walk with others on their journey. I offer individual and group supervision and one of my joys is watching new counselors grow in their confidence, insights, and strengths. I learn from each person I have the privilege of meeting with, each one has unrealized potential and I look forward to drawing that out.
