Marcia Warmkessel, LPC
Hello. My name is Marcia Warmkessel. I specialize in breaking down barriers and getting to the heart of obstacles that inhibit positive change and goal achievement. I love working with individuals, children, and families struggling to cope with daily life due to emotional anguish, mental health diagnoses, and those experiencing trauma. I am trained in grief counseling and crisis advocacy. I am committed to providing the best restorative and ethical care possible to all people. Spiritual and faith-based counseling care is my passion.
Experience
I have been providing in-home counseling services to families and children at risk for five years in my native Southeast Pennsylvania and here in Georgia. I’ve facilitated mental health and substance use faith-based process groups. As a volunteer and paid staff member, I worked for more than a decade in crisis pregnancy outreach through the national organization, Care Net. There I provided crisis pregnancy peer counsel and grief group counseling. I directed the non-profit for nine years, but my true love is professional counseling. My love for humanity across the lifespan led me to serve as a spiritual counselor for women in Berks County Prison and as a member of Yokefellows Prison Ministry, where I led evening services and study at Lehigh County Jail in SE Pennsylvania. I have assisted with prison recidivism and reentry efforts. I conducted an afterschool program supporting home-alone children. I did a hospice chaplaincy internship which opened my eyes to the challenging needs of elder citizens in our society. I worked as a researcher and contributor to Returning Citizens.net- a prison reentry resource by Lindsay Phillips, PsyD. I have articles published in At the Center Magazine: a ministry of Life Matters Worldwide supporting college-campus pregnancy centers. I continue as an advocate for women in crisis pregnancies, those suffering child/pregnancy loss, victims of domestic violence and in human trafficking awareness.
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Psychology and Organizational Behavior from Albright College, Reading, PA. I earned a Master of Arts degree from Biblical Theological Seminary in 2018 (now Missio Seminary) in suburban Philadelphia. I hold certificates in Global Trauma Response and in Clinical Supervision. I am also a certified Reiki II Practitioner. Currently I am seeking full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor under the supervision of Rawson Gregory Davis, MSEd, LPC, of Athens, GA
My family and I reside in the Athens area and enjoy kayaking, pets, healthful cooking, and getting acquainted with our new state. Go Dawgs!
