Maggie O'Brien, M.Ed. NCC
I enjoy helping individuals, groups, and organizations reach their full potential through the insight assessments can provide. In my work, I’ve found that assessments are useful at many stages of growth, from times when you plateau or are feeling stuck to times when you are seeing growth in yourself and want to build upon this. I operate from the assumption that you know yourself best and use assessments as a method for promoting self-reflection and drawing information out for discussion. With each assessment, clients will undergo a fun, interactive, and in-depth verification process to deepen their understanding of the assessment and themselves. Using a strengths-based and action-oriented approach, I help clients use what they learn about themselves to construct practical action plans.
I began my career in community mental health working with individuals and families experiencing relational issues, anxiety, depression, sexual trauma, and drug and alcohol dependency. In 2015, I decided to transition into higher education where I use my foundation in mental health work to support students’ career development. I currently work in the UGA Career Center helping students explore their college major options. In this role, I encourage students to develop openness within the major-choice process and teach them how to take their exploration step-by-step. In February 2018, I joined Bethel Haven’s team where I work part-time using my skill in assessment with individuals, groups and organizations.
I have a BS in Chemistry from Wofford College, a MEd Professional Counseling from the University of Georgia, and will complete an EdS in Learning, Leadership, and Organization Development also from the University of Georgia in May 2019. Additionally, I am certified to facilitate the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) and Myers Brigg Type Indicator (MBTI).
What to expect:
Within my sessions and workshops, I use a strengths-based approach with assessment as a tool to facilitate self-awareness, guide growth-oriented conversations, and promote informed decision-making. I enjoy using assessments with individuals, groups and organizations to help with topics such as post-secondary planning, career development and direction, group/team development, and leadership development.
