Katie Deans, LPC, NCC, TBRI® Practitioner

Hi there! My name is Katie Deans, and I am passionate about helping clients overcome the things in life that keep them feeling hopeless and stuck. I have always enjoyed supporting and caring for others around me, especially those who are hurting mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, so entering the counseling field just felt like a natural fit for me. My ultimate goal as a counselor is to create a space where my clients can find healing through being truly seen and heard. Life can be busy, demanding, and overwhelming, and I believe the counseling session is the perfect place to disconnect from the craziness and dig a little deeper into what’s really going on inside of us. I seek to empower my clients to live full and free lives by becoming more self-aware and using this knowledge to take steps toward positive change and healing.
My Experience
My experience includes working as an elementary school counselor and a mental health counselor in private practice and nonprofit settings. I have worked with students and clients experiencing a wide variety of mental, behavioral, and emotional issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, life transitions, school difficulties, and more. I feel I am at my best when working with children, teens, and young adult women.
My Education
I am licensed by the state of Georgia as a Professional Counselor. I am also a National Certified Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. My education includes a master’s degree in School Counseling from Liberty University and a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Georgia. My school counseling degree has prepared me to work both in school and private practice settings and has given me a unique perspective on the issues that school-age children and adolescents face. I have also been trained as a a TBRI® Practitioner through the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University.
What To Expect From Me
I strive to be as open and honest with my clients as possible - when you come into my office, I want you to feel comfortable, welcome, and safe to say whatever you feel without fear of judgment. (Trust me, there’s no judgment when you walk through my door.) Our first session, will involve me asking questions so that I can get to know you and your story as well as us working together to create goals for your time in counseling. I often ask questions like, “How would you like your life to be different as a result of counseling?” and “What is it that you want out of counseling?” If the counseling is for a child or adolescent under 18, I require parent/guardian involvement in counseling. I believe that you, the parent, are a key part of your child’s healing process!
I’m not going to pretend that therapy is always easy - but I will tell you that if you put in the work, it’s worth it. We have to face the hard stuff, the stuff we’ve been avoiding, in order for growth and healing to happen. And the good news is, I’m committed to walking through this process with you. I will listen to you compassionately, seek to understand you sincerely, and help you find new and healthier ways to do this thing called life. In counseling there are tears, there is laughter (you’ll find out quickly that I love to laugh), and there is hope.
If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, feel free to call our office at (706) 310-9046. We can always chat to see if I am a good fit for the particular issue you are facing, and if I’m not, I’m happy to help you find someone who is. I currently see clients on Thursday afternoons and evenings.
